En ansträngning, flera suckar

2022, video (21 min)

This video reflects on the human effort of building on unstable ground, where excavating mud disrupts balance and sets masses in motion. Preventing a mudslide requires stabilizing these masses—a demanding process that often creates the very problems it seeks to solve.

For the project, I transported mud from a construction site to my studio, where I constructed a segmented wooden frame. Fellow students joined to collectively attempt brick-making, their movements shaped by the frame’s design. As the mud is forced into uniform shapes, the group becomes subject to the rigid dynamics of the production system, exposing tensions between collective labor, structural constraints, and the unpredictable nature of the material.

The act is over when all of the mud has been shaped into bricks.
